It has always been my goal to start my own apiary. But I had a few challenges to get started. Firstly the funds were not there to start but I had the passion and the land with ample free space.
Follow my journey as I travelled from Kingston to St. Elizabeth (my home parish) to pick up my first bee hive. I left work on Friday evening June 20, 2025 and travelled two and a half hours to St. Elizabeth back home to my mom's farm.
Then the next morning I met up with Clovis, the OG beekeeper in my community to inspect and purchase my first hive. He had a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to share. Then my sister brought me back later in the evening that day to pick up the hive.
The next day which is Sunday June 22, 2025 I did a thorough inspection of the hive on my own. I even found the queen and marked her with a special marker. All is all it was an eventful weekend, I am so glad that I took this step to becoming a beekeeper.
